A Red Circle’s mission is to restore North County to a safe, vibrant, sustainable, and economically viable community while promoting diversity and healing racial strife. Located in The Promise Zone, A Red Circle’s programming includes education, community wellness, and the arts.
Position Overview: The Education Advocacy Intern will play a vital role in supporting the education advocacy coalition and preparing for the upcoming legislative session. This internship will offer a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in policy change, working closely with community members and elected officials to shaping our advocacy strategies and initiatives.
Internship Responsibilities:
Research (25%): Conduct research on equitable school funding and investigate legislative trends to inform advocacy efforts.
Elected Official and Community Engagement (25%): Coordinate meetings with local lawmakers and cultivate partnerships to facilitate discussions on best practices in education advocacy. Additionally, engage with coalition members to harness collective strength and amplify advocacy efforts.
Action Plan Development (50%): Collaborate with team members and external partners to craft a comprehensive action plan for the upcoming legislative session. This includes defining strategic objectives and devising advocacy tactics aimed at effecting positive change in education policy.
Qualifications
Passion for Education Advocacy
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work independently.
Experience living, working, or volunteering in North St. Louis County preferred.
Personal transportation required.
Personal phone and laptop preferred.
Field of study: Political Science, Public Policy, Social Science, Public Affairs, or related fields.
Comfortable engaging with community members and elected officials.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work well in a team setting.
