Facilities Maintenance Technician

Position Summary Responsible for facility maintenance, including preventive maintenance programs for conveyors and related equipment. Performs work in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Thermo Fisher values. You’ll play a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing facilities. You’ll ensure optimal operation of building systems and infrastructure while supporting our mission to enable customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. You’ll lead facilities-related projects, manage critical building systems, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to create and maintain an efficient, safe, and compliant work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure building security and safety; maintain compliance with government regulations and OSHA requirements.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues on conveyor and other facility equipment
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and contractor oversight
  • Promote a collaborative, inclusive team environment and positive workplace culture.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to operating methods and procedures.
  • Maintain safety standards and building cleanliness; conduct and document monthly operational/safety inspections.
  • Serve as liaison with Corporate Engineering, local fire and police departments, and municipal officials.
  • Establish and manage safety programs, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Hot Work permits, confined space entry, facility emergency response plans, and other required programs.
  • Administer facility access controls, including issuing and maintaining security badges and keys by access level.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED required; trade/technical school or higher education preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in a distribution environment with extensive knowledge of conveyor systems, electrical test equipment, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, scan optics, pneumatics, fire sprinkler systems, OSHA regulations, and DOT/regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Word; exposure to Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills; self-motivated and detail-oriented.
  • Willingness to obtain forklift certification; prior experience operating powered industrial trucks (cherry picker and stand-up forklifts preferred).
  • Ability to lift, carry, pull, and push 40–70 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally, with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in workplace hazardous materials and hazardous waste management.
  • Prior conveyor system and electrical background expertise.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
