The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country.
Program Location: Houston, TX
Position Dates: March 17, 2025 – August 30, 2025 = 24 weeks
Position Summary: The incumbent will conduct environmental education programs and activities for youth aged K-12 at Houston Parks and Recreation community centers. They will support special events and educational programming conducted by partners, including national wildlife refuges, schools, and non-profit organizations. This position will have professional development opportunities and training with a focus on migratory birds and wildlife conservation. They will build a professional network through hands-on experience working with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff and partners.
Member Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct EE programs for partners, including surrounding national wildlife refuges, Houston Parks and Recreation community centers, and Ronald McDonald House.
- Develop educational programs and activities on topics such as wildlife, migratory birds, habitat, pollinators, and nature in the Houston metropolitan area.
- Support surrounding national wildlife refuges and partners, including conducting environmental education, biological monitoring, and habitat restoration.
- Capture video and photos for social media.
- Participate in special events hosted by partners to engage the public in conservation.
- Gain program-related skills and participate in job shadowing to increase knowledge, build skills and gain certifications.
Marginal Duties
- Maintain program materials and tools, including vehicles, EE materials and more.
- Participate in online training.
