Job Title: Student Research Assistant – Greenhouse Plant Physiology

Compensation: $14/hr
Job Summary:
The Student Research Assistant will support ongoing plant physiology research projects conducted in the greenhouse. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in plant science, research methodologies, and greenhouse management practices. The student will work closely with the research team and will assist in various aspects of the research process, including plant care, data collection, and basic laboratory procedures.
Key Responsibilities:

Plant Care and Maintenance:
- Assist with the planting, transplanting, watering, and fertilizing of experimental plants.
- Monitor plant health and identify stress, disease, or pest infestation signs.
- Implement pest and disease control measures as directed by the supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and organized greenhouse environment.

Data Collection:
- Measure and record plant growth parameters (e.g., height, leaf area, stem diameter).
- Assist with the collection of plant tissue samples for laboratory analysis.
- Monitor and record greenhouse environmental data (e.g., temperature, humidity, light intensity).
- Accurately enter data into spreadsheets or databases.

Experimental Assistance:
- Assist with the setup and teardown of experiments.
- Follow protocols carefully and maintain accurate experimental records.
- Assist with basic laboratory procedures such as weighing, mixing, and preparing samples.
- Greenhouse Operations:
- Assist with the operation of greenhouse environmental control systems (e.g., ventilation, lighting).
- Help with maintaining greenhouse equipment.
- Ensure proper disposal of plant waste and experimental materials.
- Other Duties:
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
- Communicate regularly with the supervisor regarding project progress.
- Assist with other tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- A strong interest in plant science, biology, or related fields.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
