This position is responsible for supporting research activities within the poultry program at Lincoln University. Responsibilities would include care and maintenance of the research flock, data collection for ongoing research projects, and helping with other farm activities as needed. Care and maintenance of the research flock may include ensuring feed/water availability, collecting eggs, maintaining poultry enclosures, mowing grass in/around poultry enclosures, and cleaning/sanitizing equipment. Data collection will primarily involve measuring and recording information related to growth, feed intake, and egg production.
Depending on qualifications and interest, this person may also be involved in analyzing data, writing grants, and disseminating research findings through presentations and publications.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
- Previous livestock handling experience is preferred
- Must have a desire and willingness to learn
- Must be able to work independently or in a team
- Must have reliable transportation
- Maintain accurate records of animal husbandry and data collected
- Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Positions requires someone who can walk on uneven terrain, work in hot/humid or cold weather, lift up to 50 lbs, drive gator on farm, bend over, catch chickens, work around chickens, and mow grass.
