On-site Internship Opportunity

CASA of Marion County is proud to partner with local community colleges, colleges, and universities to offer an unpaid internship in exchange for college credit. This is an on-site position in Salem, Oregon. Must be 21 or older.

About Us:

CASA of Marion County recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers from the community to advocate for children in foster care. Our Court Appointed Special Advocates are all sworn into the Marion County Juvenile Court and are then assigned and serve as an advocate for kids in care. CASA Volunteers are a caring and consistent adult presence for abused and neglected children. For many abused and neglected children facing multiple challenges, a CASA volunteer may be the one constant adult presence in their lives. Advocates stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home.

Intern Responsibilities:

Interns at CASA of Marion County are a vital part of our team and are a large asset to our program. The internship consists of a variety of tasks including administrative duties and data management. Our interns get well acquainted with the child welfare system and both attend court and manage the waitlist of children in care who do not have a CASA.

Who Should Apply:

This internship is an excellent hands-on opportunity for higher education students in Oregon ages 21 and older seeking work experience in social services, public health, early child education, psychology, at-risk populations, poverty alleviation, behavioral health, psychology, human resources, law, social justice, and crisis intervention. We welcome students with lived experience in the foster care system, as well as students from historically marginalized communities, and students with bilingual skills. Interns must abide by the terms of CASA’s Equity Statement, which can be found on our website.

When to Apply:

We have interns year round! Internship applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

Interns must be 21 years of age or older.

Interns are required to sign a confidentiality agreement as they will have access to private records both criminal and those related to an open child welfare case.

Interns are required to pass a background check prior to their first day in the office.

Interns are expected to follow and adhere to CASA’s Equity Statement, which can be found on our website.

We are small office who work closely together. You must show an ability to work in both teams and independently.

Interns must keep an open mind to new information and different perspectives.

Interns are required to follow and adhere to CASA of Marion County’s Employee Handbook.

Duration of Internship:

We are flexible on the start and end dates, but we do ask for a three-month commitment, at a minimum.

Preferred Qualifications:

Attention to Detail

Fluency in Word, Excel, Outlook

Ability to adapt to new computer systems quickly and willingness to learn

Experience in a professional office
